Combining tea ceremony and calligraphy allows you to experience two different sides of Japanese culture during a single visit.
Both experiences take place at Yorimichiya, so there is no need to travel between different locations. After learning about tea culture and preparing matcha, you can continue with a hands-on shodo experience in the same traditional machiya.
Each experience lasts approximately one hour, giving you a total of around two hours to enjoy these two traditional Japanese arts. The package is also slightly more affordable than booking the two experiences separately: tea ceremony is ¥6,600 and calligraphy is ¥5,500, while the combined package is ¥10,300 per person.
It is an easy way to enjoy a half-day-style cultural experience while making the most of your time in Kyoto.
Your visit takes approximately two hours in total, with one hour dedicated to each experience.
The order of the experiences may vary depending on the day. You may begin with the tea ceremony and continue with calligraphy, or start with calligraphy before moving on to the tea ceremony.
Whichever experience comes first, both sessions take place at Yorimichiya and are guided by an instructor. You will have time to learn, participate, and enjoy each activity at a comfortable pace.

L’activité était vraiment exceptionnelle, aussi bien pour l’expérience de la cérémonie du thé que pour celle de la calligraphie. Un grand merci à toute l’équipe. Je le recommande pour les familles !

10/10 experience would absolutely recommend. We did the calligraphy & tea ceremony and it was even better than expected. The entire session is held in a traditional Kyoto style teahouse (very small ceilings duck your head lol) and our host, Mao, was amazing. She took her time with teaching us calligraphy and paid extra attention to making sure that our names were correct which i appreciated. She was also very good with my very tired daughter. The tea ceremony was also an amazing experience as our host is dedicated to the craft. She explained everything in great detail. They are both great at english as well. 10/10 highly recommended

YORIMICHI YA truly moved us. The staff's kindness, warmth, and professionalism were exceptional. They allowed us to experience a moment of true Japanese tradition, starting with a Japanese calligraphy lesson, followed by a guided tour of a traditional house, and then a tea ceremony complete with an audiovisual presentation on the history of matcha. It was an immersive and engaging experience. I was truly happy and grateful to have chosen this experience.

Great experience, our time was not rushed, we learned a lot about the history of both calligraphy and tea ceremony. Our hosts were most welcoming and full of enthusiasm and knowledge about Kyoto and the history of matcha and about learning calligraphy.
